Room 5 and 6 put their problem solving skills to the test when making a ship out of a 30cm2 piece of tin foil. We noticed that the sides needed to be big. The winning ship was 18cm long and 9cm wide. It was twice as long as it was wide.

How sound travels

Our independent question was how does sound echo? We already knew that sound travels in vibrations.
We read an article that explained how sound doesn't exist in space because there is nothing for the sound to bounce off. After reading the article we realised that sound echoes on Earth because it bounces off objects.
In the experiment on the video sound is bouncing off the ruler and causing vibrations which is making the sound.

Courage Memoirs

Room 6 have been writing about a time they showed bravery or courage.

Capture the flag

I went face first. And I did not talk. If I talked I would cry. It just happened when I ran down the yellow bars off the fort because I knew I would get tug. I have to get up I thought, to get back in the game.

My leg hurt. I keep going. I was focused on the flag that I was going to get from the other team. I was running to it. I got tug. It was Jamie. I froze until Chilli saved me.

George called “Attention!” We ran to line up. Our team had won.

 Parasailing

When I saw the boat I got tingly in my hands it was like pins and needles because I saw the big parasail. When they gave me my big harness it felt loose. I fiddled heaps with the buckle. Then my name got called up. I said “what happens if I don’t do it right?” to the guy. The guy said “it’s easy.”

Then before I could take a breath, I was 122 metres high. It was quite lovely. The guy pressed a button which towed me into the boat. I landed on the trampoline. When I got down the guy said “you are my hero,” because I was the youngest kid to do it. I couldn’t stop thinking about the view.

The time I got a big prickle in my foot

“I am not going into the water” I said to Mum. I kept walking away. I didn’t want to go into the water because it would sting. Mum said “please get in the water.” “No” I say. My hands whiten as I hold onto the door. I take a deep breath and let go of the door.

After a lot of convincing, I dip my toes into the water to check the temperature. I get in hoping it wouldn’t sting. It wasn’t bad after all.

Recorder group

A great effort from the recorder group who have only being playing for a few weeks.
We use small cups for notes that are one beat, milk bottles for notes that are two beats and a bucket for notes that are four beats. The notes are written on the cups and they are different colours so we know what note to play if it's a B,A or G.

Being a digital citizen

We have had many chats, watched short video clips and read articles about being a digital citizen. Have a look at the 'Hector's World' website. It has a children's and parent's part too and have a chat together about the expectations when using the internet at home.

All about me masks

We have been flat out the last couple of weeks each doing a paper mache mask for art.
We learnt how to insert photos into PowerPoint and then change the colour and effects of the photos. We also completed a brainstorm with words representing things that are important to us. We then found and photocopied these words from the dictionary.
We will layered on our photos and words all over our masks to each create a mask that represents all that is important to us.

Cricket skills

Each day Room 6 play a sport and practice the skills for that particular sport. Last week we played soccer and this week we played cricket. During this time we practise our co-operation skills in the context of sport. Check out our videos to see us helping each other and playing barrel cricket.

4R's

Room 6 worked in randomly sorted groups to share how they use each of the 4's. They are respecting others and property, responsible for learning and ourselves.
