Room 7 Album

Hi everyone,
Here's one of the four songs that will be released tomorrow for Room 7's self titled album 'Room 7 hits'. If you want a copy bring a blank CD to school.

Week 2 of I-time

Another successful week of I-time with Room 6 and 7. Here's a few examples of our learning.

Orange peel experiment

We wrote predictions of which orange would float. Unpeeled or peeled.

I predict that the unpeeled one will float because it is waterproof and the skin makes it float. Sam C

I predict that the one without the skin would float because it is the lightest. Max

I predict the one that is peeled because it is airtight. Mica

The peeled one sank. The un peeled floated because the skin acts as a life jacket to make it float. We also tried just orange peel and it floated.

I-time learning

Co-operative learning

Each Friday we have been doing co-operative learning activities. The groups are randomly made. Each person has a role. This week we had to work as a team to make the ping pong ball travel through the tubes.

 

Observational Drawing

We looked closely at shells.
We held our pencils in the side like artists do.
We shaded the lighter and darker parts of the shells.

Some great new skills learnt last term in the homework challenge. Well done to these people who have have got certificates this term.

Tennis

We have been practising our tennis skills.

Go kart

Room7 is entering trolley Derby for the Willowridge Wanakafest. 

Bailey hammered the middle of the go cart.

 

We had to drilled, hammered and used a spanner to tighten the bolts. 

We drilled the front steering wheels so it can turn. 

  Mica hammered the side of the cart for the wheels and strength.

We took a vote for camo and rainbow. We got the same votes. We problem solved and decorated it with rainbow camo.

Fair testing

We only changed one variable in our experiment. We tested to see which the strongest material was.

Jump Jam

The man who choreographs the dances for the Jump Jam songs came to our school this afternoon. Jump Jam has simple and repetitive dance moves so everyone can join in.

As writers we...

As writers we re-read our writing and check our spelling. We share our writing with others.

Mica's bike racing

I came third place in winter games for biking around the Wanaka Dinosaur Park. Had to lift my bike over snow and rocks.

I came second place in the Lismore Park jumps.

Pop Art

We watched this video clip about Andy Warhol



We sketched a buzzy bee, Marmite jar, tomato sauce bottle and a lego man.


We chose our favourite one.


Repeated the image and added 8 bright colours.

Plane Competition

Room 7 had a paper plane competition.
We had to make a paper plane. We went in a group of four and we measured how far they flew.
Sam came 1 with 7m and 31cm, Leo came came 2 with 7m 25cm, Muireann came
3 with 6m.

Tree planting with Doug

First you make a square.
And then you have to put compost in the hole.
Put the tree in the hole check if it is the right size.
Loosen the roots then put the tree in the hole.
Put the soil around the tree put three layers of compost and three layers of soil.

Paper planes

On Thursday Room 7 will have a paper plane competition. We will  measure how far our planes will travel.

End of term assembly

What a busy term it has been. Today at assembly we said goodbye to Mr Dyer who is off to China to teach. Room 5 wrote new lyrics to the 'break my stride' song. We sang  and the band played their version of the song to Mr Dyer.

Making numbers in the tens, hundreds and thousands

Room 7 have been reading numbers up past 1000. We looked at the number of views Room 3, 6 and 7 have and even made Room7's number out of play money and place value blocks.

We learnt that we need 10 $1 coins to make $10

Nga Waka e Whitu

Ms Tamati has been sharing a Maori legend about the early settlers to Aotearoa. The following song shares the names of the whitu (7) waka they came on.
