Swimming

It has been a busy week with swimmming. It was a quieter bus trip back today with lots of sleepy kids.

We made puppets of Christmas characters.

Cardboard Rudolf

The cardboard Rudolf was made with hot glue gun, cardboard, red paper, sharpe and a bell.

Peg planes

We made peg planes because Mrs Allison wanted some cool pegs in the classroom.

Our learning from Passion Projects

Materials technology group

What a busy afternoon we had today. Here's all the hair clips that the materials technology group made as well as cutting the fabric to make their skirts for next week. Room 4a joined us today, we helped the girls make hair clips too.

4 Seasons 1 tree

We painted four seasons in one tree. We learnt to sponge paint and we tilted out brush to have more control with the spirals and branches.

Literacy tasks

We made houses out of paper. We had to read the instructions really well before we made the houses. We measured using a ruler and made flaps to glue the sides together.



We made bookmarks they had to be 6cm by 6cm. If we did not measure it right they wouldn't fit on our page.

Ms Tamaiti told us a legend about a Taniwha in Lake Hawea. This is the first part of the Taniwha. Keep an eye out for Part 2.

Games for the homework challenge

First we had to pick a player and then roll the dice.If you land on a rainbow space you read it and then do what it says. Bella's game


If you land on a unhealthy food you go down a slide.If you go on a healthy food you go up a ladder. Aimee's game

On a good fruit you move one or to spaces and on a bad fruit you will move one or two.Amber's game

Starting our sprints

Bill showed us how to start standing up.

Our head needs to be leaning over our feet.
Our arms need to be opposite to our feet.



For a crouch start our hands need to be sideways, so we don't break our fingers.



It should take a long to stand up from a crouch start.

I have been very impressed with the quality of homework this term. There has been a lot of evidence from you to show that you are completing it. Here's a few examples.

Baking

A huge thank you to Bernie who came and baked scones and pickelets. We learnt about fractions when we measured the mixture. When we ate the baking we cut the scones and pickelets into 1/4 and 1/2.

How to be healthy

We have had great dicussions about food and the types of food our body needs to stay healthy. We have made a rap to help others 5 things our body needs.

Sarah Walker came to school

 

Olympic silver medalist Sarah Walker came to our school yesterday. She was very interesting to listen to. Here is a few photos to share what she did while she was at school.

 

 Sarah signed some people's helmets and hats.

 

Sarah let us touch her Silver medal from the 2012 London Olympics. It is very heavy because it is real silver.

We were all very interested to hear stories from her childhood and the moment that she wanted to become an Olympic competitor.

Room 7 had a lovely time buddy reading in the sun with Room 3 this afternoon.

Homework

It is great to see the class coming up with different ideas to share where the olympic games have been hosted over the years.

Book reviews

This term we have been writing book reviews to share great books that we have read and others may want to read. We have a folder on our book shelf to help us choose a great book. At library time we have been sharing books that we have read. 
A review must have:

• What type of text it is e.g., non fiction or fairy tale etc.
• A short description of the book
• Why we liked it or didn't like it
• Who would like to read the book

It was great to see the children very enthusiastic about racing in the cross country. Many of the children achieved the goals that they set. Tomorrow we will have a reflection about our goals.







Homework- News

There are a lot of children in Room 7 that are bringing along newspaper clips to share for news. This morning there were 4 children who brought along an article from the newspaper. This video is Room 7's Olympic coverage from the weekend.
